Dixit - The Board Game

Today I'm going to review a board game.

 The game
was introduced to the world very recently and I got to play it a few months ago.
Basically, its a 3-6player game with a witty edge to it. Those who do not understand what that means will not enjoy this game, and it is recommended strongly for them to stay away ,  to keep the other players in the game buckled up and enthusiastic about playing this game.

The game has 6 mentalists i.e the instruments which represent the player. Each mentalist has a stack of square tokens with 1-6 numbers inscribed on one side and the mentalist logo (also represented by the color of the token) on the other side. Then the most significant are the flash cards which have a very unique collection of images. Lastly a scoreboard , which is either printed on the box or else provided separately.

The Objective of the Game is Simple. Whoever scores and reaches the finish line first, Wins !!!

But How? Now, that's what the game is all about.

For the rules and all other general information - you can just visit the wiki link. I'm not here for that.

All I can say is, the game has won a lot of awards and is much loved by those who play it. Now, this game is best enjoyed played with a juggle of players changing every time. It has a good tendency for same group buddies to develop a tagline for each turn they play thus seeding predictability for the adept ears to guess which card has been flipped upside down on the table. and ironically if the competitive spirit is on a high note among such players, even then, it could turn out to be highly interesting.  Alternatively, if the players are crazily imaginative and funny, playing this game with the same group can turn out to be a unique and fulfilling experience. It can keep a joyous environment with an intellectual time springing productivity essentially.

People have come out with dialogues from films, names of songs and movies, proverbs and idioms, name of famous historic idol, an accident or interesting incident, anything from the newspapers or even actions, expressions are allowed and sometimes stuff which none of the other participants i.e. mentalists really understand  but yet have to decide for themselves and act according to their perceptive organs.

I have had experiences where I was rolling over with laughter, holding my stomach whilst playing this game where the mentalists were good. I felt I and  they had freed themselves from all shields of personality. On the other hand, I've spent my 30mins hoping against hope that the game just wraps up fast with my hands supporting my head from drooping to sleep.

There are few ground rules which aren't mentioned in the rules and regulations of the game but if applied, can add spice to your life whilst you devote those precious moments to this game.

  • Serve some laughing potion to the players, that loosens up the nerves and sprinkles humor in their senses before starting the game. Excess of Citric acid in a drink is known to do the trick.
  • Be the child in the group, oh! not the cry baby one (jeez!)  I'm talking about the innocent naughty one. Spring surprises like tickling your friend next to you and then turning a poker face as if you didn't do it.
  • NEVER CONDEMN Anyone or Anything said , during the game. Don't try to explain things or cards more specifically. Expressly make it known to each player/s that they are DEFENSELESS and are here to loose it all, if they have to - " SO NO ONE HELPS ANOTHER PLAYER DURING THE COURSE OF THE GAME, AND CERTAINLY NOT TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE CLUE MEANS."
  • As a variation, a theme can be given to the clues which'll follow throughout the game. This gives a backbone for the people to not drown in the ocean of possibilities and helps keep the momentum up and steady.
  • Never break the rules. Lol!! As simple it sounds, it actually holds a significant meaning. Many times we come across players who retort out of insecurities attacking other players, understand and respect their behavior and implore them to grasp those 4 words for the benefit of one and all.

The beauty of this game is that it can be played anywhere. It is easily the most travel friendly game you'd come across, and otherwise can just tuck in a small corner of your luggage. You can play it at home, in a cave, in the middle of sea while boating,  for erotic group fun, on your terrace or beach house, or in the plane. Its just so accessible and easy that it doesn't require much of space.

I'd sincerely plead and request you folks, Please! Don't hurt anyone's religious sentiments or drag  issues of caste and creed into this game, by giving out clues that directly attack a player. It doesn't serve anybody well doing that, including the one propagating, promoting and allowing it. This game is for sporty jubilant times, it's best kept that way.

Its currently NOT available in India but its easily accessible, in the sense, it can be purchased online, thanks to cross border shipments.

Personally, I love playing this game. It is my way of learning new things from intellectual people, new jokes from friends and overall having a good time!!!

I would rate this Game :

And those are my friends  :))))
